Come on over to the new site Laakapu.org and let's continue the party there! I have a really cool template up... and I noticed that a couple of my blogger friends have it as well, so I hope they don't mind if I join in on the theme =). Now at least I don't have to "start over" =). Anyway, today was my sculpting workout and I haven't felt such a burn in a long time! Right on gettin' back on!! We all have times when we have to take a week or a few days off... it's good for you. Don't be too hard on yourself, just don't fail to get back on!

:D8/21/2005 10:14:00 PM|W|P|hbjock|W|P|Well, after setting my dad's computer up all day... I feel totally wiped of any and all energy... so this week's series of hotties are just random pics from my collection. Hope you like them though!! And I'm sure the musclestuds of the blogging world like Beast and Gock will love the last guy especially ;). Enjoy!! Now I wasn't all that athletically inclined when I was in high school... but hell, if a guy likes that wants to throw a few passes, you can bet I'll re-arrange my schedule anytime!! No time like the present to learn a new sport, right? =) Hmmm maybe I should go back to hanging at the beach and re-train as a swimmer again like I was in high school? Now I wasn't a competitive swimmer but we had a killer P.E. program that included training for a biathalon at the end of the year... Hmmm... I do miss doing laps in the pool. Dang... should I just go back to the gym already?? So many choices!! Football, ocean swimming, the gym.... yikes!! What to do?!?! Hmmm... you know, I think a combination of all three activities would likely build this incredible body. Maybe that's the real way to go.. sports... fun, wet cardio and a killer gym routine. Yup yup, I think we have a winner! Anyway, to Beast and Gock, hope you liked this last pic ;). Furthermore I find it both remarkably flattering and humorous that you would include me in the "muscle stud" category... Beast yes... me... not yet. Thank you. ;)

My dad just bought a new computer this week and I just spent the last 5 hours setting it up with wireless internet and configuring the Windows Media Center 2005 system he has.... He bought a brand new Sony Vaio Pentium D 820!! He even upgraded the darned thing to 5.1`Surround Sound and a 19" LCD flat screen monitor! The thing that really sucks is that he has a DVD burner on his computer and the hot sound system and the ability to watch TV on his computer, and he probably won't even use half of the things that this thing does! All that hot perks and they'll go un-used.... sigh.... Oh well. The one thing he does really like is that I installed a wireless card in his system and set up a router with my cable internet access so now he's moved up to the world of high-speed internet access instead of using "dial up". Anyway... here I am on my ancient Pentium III 550mhz computer that slows down every day =((. Anyone got $2,000 for a new computer?? I know I don't =)). Paul8/22/2005 03:39:00 AM|W|P|Blogger nfwnohow|W|P|now you know what I do for a living, right?

the p3-550 won't render you much... maybe $100. You'd be better just to keep it and have two computers when you buy your new one.

Now - you don't have to spend $2,000 to have something that works REALLY well... for about $1,000 you could build your own kickass computer (like I always do) but only if you're feeling adventureous.

For about $1,200 I could get you a nice Dell Optiplex GX280 w/ p4 3.2, 1gb ram, 80gb HDD, DVD Burner, 17" flat screen, 3 year warranty, etc... etc... using my "special discount". Now shipping to Hawaii might be something else... but consider it. It wouldn't be as good as the computer I can build for less, but it would be a Dell w/ a 3 year warranty. Sonys are GREAT computers too but usually overpriced. Save your money and don't waste it on the HP/Compaq crap... Gateway 2000 is also a moderate joke.

If you're into laptops (most people are even though I HATE them)... I've had the most luck with Toshiba and Sony laptops in terms of bang and reliability for the buck. Dell laptops seem to lag a good 6-8 months behind in technology and they're still expensive and Gateways are even worse. IBM laptops rule but are always overpriced. Granted, you WILL pay $2,000 for a good laptop.8/22/2005 03:49:00 AM|W|P|Blogger Spencer|W|P|I myself will only own a dell desktop I have so much good luck with them dude!

I think I've always been fascinated by supernatural powers and psychic ability ever since I was a little kid... and growing up in a Catholic family and going to a Catholic elementary school, I often wondered what "Heaven" was really like. Do you pass away, go into this tunnel with a white light at the end of it, meet St. Peter at the gates and then grow wings and sit on clouds all day long with family and friends?? Well... when I was a kid, that's what my idea of Heaven was. Now I don't know how many people out there actually believe in spirits and psychics, especially with all the "crack-pot" phonies out there... but, personally, I've seen too much and been a part of way too many spiritual things to deny the existence of spirits... and I like to think that there are people out there who possess an ability to communicate with those who have passed on. Anyway, the point of all this babble, was that I've been recently reading a book by world-reknowned psychic Sylvia Browne, and what her "take" is on life after earthly death... and I must say, if her version of "Life on the Other Side" is even 75% accurate, I can't wait to "get Home". The thought of meeting all your family and friends from not only this current life, but every past life that you've ever had... and then getting to "live" in a "world" where you are not limited by physical limitations... imagine being able to be the jock that you always wanted to be, or the musician that you only dreamed of being... all the while doing research on your life and other lives that you've come into contact with to find out exactly why you were re-incarnated into your most recent life... finding out why you had the friends that you had, or the relationships and failures that you endured... those are only some of the things that occur in everyday life on the "Other Side" as Ms. Browne puts it. I know some will probably read this and think I'm a total whacko or whatever... but I bet that EVERYONE at one time or another has experienced "deja vu" or had too many coincidences in their lives to know that there's something strange going on every once in a while in life... all of these things have already been pre-determined by you before you entered this life in a detailed chart that you personally set up for yourself for this life... it's a chart that was created to help you accomplish your "goal" on earth, whatever it may be... Anyway, if anyone is even remotely curious about the mere possibility of there being an afterlife, and maybe even just for the fun of it would like to know what it might possibly be like there... you should check this book out! There's a link to it here or in my "On the Bookstand" section of this page on the right-hand side... enjoy it! I sure did... now I'm even more intrigued to read more of her books.|W|P|112445660362613749|W|P|Going Home...|W|P|bfljock79@gmail.com8/19/2005 03:31:00 AM|W|P|Blogger nfwnohow|W|P|I know enough and believe enough to say...

there are things in this world and universe that extend far outside the range of standard human reason and understanding. Everything is connected by the universal matrix of things on multitudes of dimensions and degrees of conceivable existance. What we understand as "spirits" may be something else entirely in reality - but the existance of things beyond the human scope of standard understanding and perceptability is certainly a FACT. What really happens when we die? I guarantee that you'll find out!!

How can humans insist that their senses are flawless? We use the weakness known as "persistance of vision" to watch TVs, CRTs, and film.... otherwise it would just be flashing pictures or scanning lines.... and yet we think we're keen enough with our senses to know for sure that there aren't other dimensional ways to exist other than ours? How silly!! how arrogant..

You're so correct... and there are a few humans gifted with the talent to touch other places a bit.... in different ways. I've met more than one.8/19/2005 09:27:00 AM|W|P|Blogger Sangroncito|W|P|I just hope my family and friends who are on the other side can't look down on me and watch while I'm jerking off or going to the bathroom!8/19/2005 05:00:00 PM|W|P|Blogger savante|W|P|I do believe in an afterlife actually. Its interesting to me how many perspectives there are on 'afterlife'.

If you get a chance also try 'Tibetan Book Of The Dead'. To make light of Sylvia Browne, whom Montel loves so dearly, I like to see Betty Butterfield discuss her.

It's that time of week again!! Time for a whole bunch of shirtless men.. and of course, if this stuff unnerves you or grosses you out because you're a straight man and stumbled here by mistake, then either scroll down real fast for some of my other posts, or come back tomorrow where I'll probably be talking about something else :) Now for the rest of us, I figured since school is starting up again, it'd only be fitting to have some frat studs as the hotties of the week, and one special hottie pic at the end... enjoy!! Now you know that some of these camera voyeur guys are lucky bastards... to get a shot like that.. yum!! I know it seems a bit adolescent to some, but I always had fantasies about being with some hot looking frat boy who had just a firm stomach, not really some abs... but like the kind of guy that you'd likely find at a baseball or football game then lounging around the frat house later on. =) Oooh.. lift that shirt man! Damn!!! A light 6pack with the nice "v" line... Ok, like the first guy in the post... I love me some frat boys... and although this may sound kinda sad, I think a hot lean guy with a beer in his hand, a backwards cap and university apparel is really hot! Boston University huh? Dang.. I need to look into a Masters program there :). Ok, now I know I live in the area of the world with the most beautiful beaches and there are tons of hot guys on the beach probably... but damn, where are the guys who want to have their picture taken? Hope you liked it as much as I did!! Nah... I said there was going to be a special hottie pic at the end... I was feeling a bit patriotic today and was thinking about the court ruling that I talked about last week against my old high school, and was thinking about all the travesties that my ancestors had to endure because of Westen greed and pride, and I thought about this story that I once read that illustrated the will power and determination of one group of people in Hawaiian history - the people of the Ka‘ū district of the island of Hawai‘i. In this district are tales of 3 burdensome chiefs who tried to "Lord" over their people, but to no avail. This particular story comes from "Folktales of Hawai‘i" by Mary Kawena Pukui, noted Hawaiian scholar and co-author of the Hawaiian language dictionary. Kohāikalani He ali‘i ho‘ounauna ‘ino ‘o Kohāikalani. E ‘imi ana ‘o ia i hana kaumaha no nā kanaka. Pēlā lākou i noho ai, a na kēia au na‘auao i ho‘okāhuli i ia mau mea a pau. Kohāikalani was an evil chief. He sought burdening work upon his people. During the construction of his temple on Ka‘ulakalani hill, the people were ordered to bring particular smooth stones from Kawā, an area many miles away. They patiently bore the rocks upon their shoulders and brought them from the seaside all the way upland to the top of the hill where the foundation of the temple was to be laid. When enough of the stones were collected, two priests arrived to oversee the construction of the temple, and when they gazed upon the smooth stones from Kawā, they immediately turned to the people and said, “People! There are enough rocks here, you are wearing yourselves out by fetching these rocks from Kawā. When this temple of your chief is consecrated, your bodies will become its sacrifice. Therefore, when he commands you to fetch the ‘ōhi‘a log, tell him to choose the log that he wants, and that you will help him pull it up here. Doing this may save your lives. The people heeded the advice of the priests. When they were sent down below the cliff for a tree, they replied, “Oh Chiefly One! Take a look at the tree you want and uproot it, and we will carry it up.” The chief agreed. And due to his great strength, he pulled once and a great tree was uprooted! Once the branches were cut and cleared, the chief proposed that he would go back up the hill and pull the ropes from the top while they pushed from below. The people quickly denied his request, saying that they should go uphill and pull while he, due to his great feats of strength should push the log from the bottom. The chief then agreed to their request. The men went upland and pulled the tree until it was half-way up the hill, and then they released the rope. The trunk of the tree rolled down and over the body of the chief and killed the oppressor. Henceforth from the time of the oppressing chiefs, Ka‘ū became famous for its fierceness. The chiefs feared to say “We are great chiefs” lest they endure the wrath of the people. Beforehand, Ka‘ū was a land of chiefs. A chief would command and be instantly obeyed; one would give orders which were instantly fulfilled. That was how they lived previously, but from this time forward, all of these customs have been overturned. I think we may need to renew that spirit soon enough the way this world is going...|W|P|112416194376545574|W|P|Nā Ali‘i Ho‘oluhi o Ka‘ū|W|P|bfljock79@gmail.com8/15/2005 01:58:00 PM|W|P|hbjock|W|P| Oh my God, that work out nearly killed me... OMFG are my arms sore! It was so rough for me that I began feeling faint and dizzy... now you know you're busting your ass when you start to get dizzy! The good news is that despite my total lack of the drive the last couple of weeks, I only gained 0.5% in bodyfat.. so I haven't fallen that far off yet! Oh, and Gock, I tried changing all kinds of shit in the template code to get rid of that space that appears in the first entry on my blog... but nothing seems to work bro =(. It appears to only have that space on Firefox... I looked at it again through IE and everything was fine. I don't know what it is =(. Hey everybody, just a quick post tonight… we received some shocking news. One of my uncles passed away tonight from an aneurism. Although we weren’t close, as he was more of a private person and married into our family, I’m at a loss for words for my cousins and my aunt…. I know this is probably something I shouldn’t have blogged about, but I just needed to get it out of my system, you know? Hmmm.. Blogger needs to come up with a privacy function. Does that make any sense? Like I said, I just skimmed so I might have missed the "/div" in the right places. Sloppy code my friend, sloppy.... I know you borrowed it from someone else but... you need to clean. ;)8/15/2005 10:46:00 AM|W|P|Blogger Jim|W|P|The suddeness always makes for longer periods of grief I've found. INFJ - The Counselor Idealist The Counselor Idealists are abstract in thought and speech, cooperative in reaching their goals, and directive and introverted in their interpersonal roles. Counselors focus on human potentials, think in terms of ethical values, and come easily to decisions. The small number of this type (little more than 2 percent) is regrettable, since Counselors have an unusually strong desire to contribute to the welfare of others and genuinely enjoy helping their companions. Although Counsleors tend to be private, sensitive people, and are not generally visible leaders, they nevertheless work quite intensely with those close to them, quietly exerting their influence behind the scenes with their families, friends, and colleagues. This type has great depth of personality; they are themselves complicated, and can understand and deal with complex issues and people. Counselors can be hard to get to know. They have an unusually rich inner life, but they are reserved and tend not to share their reactions except with those they trust. With their loved ones, certainly, Counselors are not reluctant to express their feelings, their face lighting up with the positive emotions, but darkening like a thunderhead with the negative. Indeed, because of their strong ability to take into themselves the feelings of others, Counselors can be hurt rather easily by those around them, which, perhaps, is one reason why they tend to be private people, mutely withdrawing from human contact. At the same time, friends who have known a Counselor for years may find sides emerging which come as a surprise. Not that they are inconsistent; Counselors value their integrity a great deal, but they have intricately woven, mysterious personalities which sometimes puzzle even them. Counselors have strong empathic abilities and can become aware of another's emotions or intentions -- good or evil -- even before that person is conscious of them. This "mind-reading" can take the form of feeling the hidden distress or illnesses of others to an extent which is difficult for other types to comprehend. Even Counselors can seldom tell how they came to penetrate others' feelings so keenly. Furthermore, the Counselor is most likely of all the types to demonstrate an ability to understand psychic phenomena and to have visions of human events, past, present, or future. What is known as ESP may well be exceptional intuitive ability-in both its forms, projection and introjection. Such supernormal intuition is found frequently in the Counselor, and can extend to people, things, and often events, taking the form of visions, episodes of foreknowledge, premonitions, auditory and visual images of things to come, as well as uncanny communications with certain individuals at a distance. |W|P|112382014639054980|W|P|Personality Type|W|P|bfljock79@gmail.com8/11/2005 06:59:00 PM|W|P|Blogger .|W|P|We administer the Myer-Briggs Type indicator here at work. Hey everybody... well, as I was saying earlier this week. Something detrimental has occurred here in Hawai‘i that may have a catastrophic effect upon the future of my old high school, the Kamehameha Schools. The Schools were founded by the Will of Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last of the royal Kamehameha line, as a means to improve the socio-economic futures of Native Hawaiian children so that they could compete with the rest of the world and become "industrious men and women." The school opened its doors in December of 1887 and throughout its 117-year history, has operated on an admissions policy adhereing to the Will of the Princess, giving admission preference to chidren of full or part Native Hawaiian ancestry. I, myself, was one of the very fortunate individuals to receive my education from Kamehameha, and in a time when Hawaiians are at the top of every health hazard, socio-economic crises, and prison population list in the islands, it made me proud to know that there was an institution out there just for us that was helping me climb out of that abyss. And now, unfortunately, there are anonymous persons and groups who are challenging Kamehameha's Hawaiian-preference admissions policy. I find it very interesting that although there are several private institutions on this island alone who provide comparable educations, that these anonymous plaintiffs would choose to attack Kamehameha. All of Kamehameha's operations and faciilities are supplied and paid for by the Bishop Estate, a private entity that was also created through the Will of Princess Pauahi. The Schools receive no Federal funding whatsoever. Secretly, we all know it's because the Bishop Estate has become the wealthiest private land owner in the last 30 years, becoming a billion-dollar entity. However, back in the early 1970s, before the Estate was forced to sell of large tracts of its land, the Estate and the Schools were very poor, and NO ONE wanted to go there. But now that the Estate and the Schools have come into all this money, everyone wants a "piece of the pie." There are even businessmen and lawyers out there who are attempting to attack every bit of Native Hawaiian entitlements that there are, thus stripping us of everything that we have left. Anyway, this past week, the 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco ruled against the Kamehameha Schools and against its admissions policy in a case called "John Doe vs. Kamehameha". Of course, the party who is attacking the Schools wishes to remain anonymous... what kind of shit is that? I know that I have talked everybody's ear off today in this entry, so I'll just say that I was there at the hearing last year and can not understand how the judges could rule against Kamehameha based on the questions they asked both attorneys. All of their questions and judicial responses were pro-Kamehameha. Personally, I think there's been some political pressure and dealings going on here... We are not sure what will happen to the Kamehameha Schools now, but the Trustees of the Estate have promised to fight this fight all the way to the end, and to never give up on the Will or the admissions policy, and more importantly, the proper education of Native Hawaiians. "John Doe's" lawyers have also sought a court order that would force Kamehameha to admit "John Doe" this academic year into the system as a senior in high school. However, the court denied that request until a proper hearing, and thusly, as it stands, the Trustees and admissions department at the Schools have denied "John Doe" admission into this coming academic year. In response to this ruling against Kamehameha, pulic outcry echoed across the island chain throughout the last week, and especially this past Saturday with a rally and march for Hawaiian justice from ‘Iolani Palace to Mauna ‘Ala, the resting place of Princess Pauahi and the rest of the Hawaiian royalty. I have to say that it was awe-inspiring and truely an emotional sight to see a "sea" of red on the streets that morning. The Police Dept estimates that there were 15,000 people Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian alike in that march alone. I wish I had brought my camera! Anyway, there are more details about the march and the general issue here in the Honolulu Advertiser over the last few days... oh and if any have questions, don't be afraid to ask me! My question is... why would someone go through all that trouble, just for one year of school? And with the high academic standards and class requirements that Kamehameha holds for its students, I seriously doubt that he would be able to graduate anyway if he's only going to be there for a year.... Anyway, the saga of stripping Hawaiians of everything possible continues... These people should be shot, whoever they are. Eli8/11/2005 12:30:00 PM|W|P|Blogger Darin|W|P|Interesting post.

As a fellow graduate of UH-Manoa (and marching band dude - DM 89-93) I always find the situation of the native Hawaiians...thought-provoking.

Hawai`i is very unique in the fact that even though you may have been born and raised in Honolulu, Pearl City, Kailua, etc. - you're not considered Hawaiian. However, if you were born in say...Salt Lake City - you are a Utahn.

While I understand and appreciate what the intentions of the Bishop Estate were when Kamehameha Schools was established - the demographic make-up of Hawai`i has changed considerably - as has Hawai`i. While intended to educate the native Hawaiian children - it is certainly more challenging these days to find a true full-blooded Hawaiian. Now, if I understand correctly, the amount of native Hawaiian blood "needed" to gain admission into Kamehameha is 1:24th? Or less?

My question to those oppose loosening the Admission Standards (which clearly has happened by merely looking at the above statement) is this: At what point do you start suffering a dimishing student body population and thus educating less students to the detriment of your own standards? Is that what Princess Pauahi Bishop would have wanted? I can't answer that. Who can?

Realizing that I'm a haole - and acknowledging the situation that American "Businessmen" put the Hawaiians in - I'm not here to tell the Hawaiians how to "run" their biz - but just to offer another opinion.8/12/2005 08:12:00 AM|W|P|Blogger Sangroncito|W|P|Powerful post. I fully support any and all efforts to redress the injustices to the Hawaiian People, including this special high school. I'd like to bitch-slap that "John Doe" who filed the lawsuit. I hope so. ;) ~Shane8/08/2005 12:46:00 PM|W|P|hbjock|W|P|Hey gang! I'm back!! Well, this year's camp was definitely a memorable one. The show that the band is attempting to put on this year is probably the most complicated and physically grueling shows they've ever done, and as much as I want to say that we had harder shows to do when I was in school, I know I'd be lying through my teeth... the band is putting the "Phantom of the Opera" on the field this year... and they've really "stepped up their game" this year by doing a drill that parallels the physical prowess of Drum Corps International. Anyway, I must say that I was surprised to discover that the Junior Staff (of which I am a part) was put up in one of the apartments on the intermediate campus of our school... and I must say... wow, it was nice! The show itself comes in 5 movements totalling about 90 charts or pictures on the field. (I think we only did 65 when I was in school) and although the music has been watered down a bit to make it easier for the kids to play, the drill is quick and large, so it balances itself out... if they can get their music down and really work on their drill skills, they're going to "kill" at state championships this year, thus re-affirming their "Top 10" ranking in the country. Anyway, there are too many thing to say about it in one entry, so I'll have to space this stuff out in several entries... the campus is looking beautiful as usual, and I will definitely have to post some images of it over the next week so you guys can see how lucky I was to attend a school like this. There was also something that happened this week that could be very detrimental to our school's future... and trust me, it's not a happy thought so I'll have to leave that for another entry as well.. Hope everyone's having a great day today.... my workout today totally kicked my ass... I should never go a week without working out again, that I'm sure of! Heheh.. on the plus side, I have dropped in body fat percentage and measurements, so I have to be happy with that! =)|W|P|112354226381861484|W|P|Band Camp 2005|W|P|bfljock79@gmail.com8/08/2005 03:34:00 PM|W|P|Blogger BRETTCAJUN|W|P|Welcome back Jonah!!!!
